Kicked To The Curb

Well, I did it. I sold my Wii.

Looking back at how much energy I put into acquiring one after the post-launch shortage madness, I’m actually kind of surprised that I was actually able to let go. But, when the funds are a little tight and you have a valuable game console whose sole purpose seems to be the collection of dust and other allergens, well, it’s easy to deal with the separation.

And that was the real problem with the Wii; it just wasn’t getting used. Much like the Gamecube that came before it, the Wii was a thing of great enjoyment during the honeymoon phase, but ended up being a console that you merely hoped to have interest in again whenever Nintendo got around to releasing something worthwhile. Yes, I know that Super Mario Galaxy is set to be released soon, but judging by my interest in the last few Nintendo titles I played on the Wii, I could probably live just fine without it. And as for the third-party titles that I’ve played, well, color me unimpressed. I can live without them too.

I used some of the Wii funds to pick up a DS Lite (which I had meant to do a long time ago, after I sold my original DS), and I am so glad I did. In fact, I’ve probably put more hours on the DS Lite in the week that I’ve had it, than I did during 2 months of Wii ownership.

Perhaps it’s hard to believe that a little handheld is mightier than a big ol’ console, but at this point in time, I can’t honestly see it being any other way.

Agreed. I played a little of the Wii and was never very impressed with it. I mean, Wii Sports was fun with a group of friends, but damn. I can’t even find a Wii in a store around here, anyway.

My wife and I are probably going to get at least one DS Lite for Christmas. We both really regret selling the old one… in fact, we might get each other DS Lites for Christmas. That’d be pretty sweet… then I can show her I am the true Meteos and Tetris DS master.

I don’t regret selling my old DS so much (the Lite is so much better), but I do regret selling all the games I had. The great DS games (Tetris, Mario Kart, New SMB) are holding up very well value-wise, and I was wrong in assuming that I’d be able to get them back at fire-sale prices from either eBay or retailers. (I did break down and grab Mario Kart when I bought the lite.)
