Getting Old is a Bitch

In just a few days, I will be turning 43-years-old.  Forty-flippin’-three.  Christ…

With that age has come approximately 36 years of being a gamer; from the home Pong consoles and Atari 2600 of the late 70’s, to the systems we have today.  What that means, is that at this age I feel as if I have played and seen it all, and by God, I pretty much have.  As a result of that, it gets increasingly difficult to stay interested in the hobby, as there seems to be less and less originality available to me.  Oh, how I envy the young…

With that said, I’m hardly a non-gamer.  I still game to some degree each and every day, but the passion I once had for playing, reading about, and writing about games has been greatly diminished over the years.  In fact, I couldn’t give two shites about the latest and greatest offerings from Nintendo and Sony (the Wii U and Vita), and I suspect that the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii will be the last consoles I’ll own, with the 3DS and PSP being the last portables I’ll ever care to tote around.

Now, I don’t intend to give up gaming entirely, but instead plan to continue what I’ve been doing for the last several months, and focus on PC gaming exclusively. I adore Steam, and the thought of carrying a library of games with me from one PC to the next as I upgrade in the coming years is just splendid.  Add in the extreme value associated with software in PC gaming these days, and for me, it’s a no-brainer.

So, where does that leave me as an incredibly poor and unprolific video game “journalist”?  It leaves me with the desire to still say something about the games I play, but very little desire to go on at length about them.  I just can’t seem to muster up the will to write lengthy diatribes about anything gaming-related, and since I’m gonna try to keep TJG rolling along with some kind of update every now-and-then, don’t expect much more than shitty Entertainment Weekly types of reviews and whatnot.  (Well, unless I get back to posting about my old coin-op obsession…namely pinball; there’s still some passion there for me in that.)

In between the occasional new posts from me, I’ll still be working on restoring the many years of TJG content that is missing from this version of this site.  Hopefully before I kick the bucket I’ll get that completed.

As for the other guys currently on the staff, I’m honestly not sure what their plans are.  (Why not drop ’em a note and let them know they’re missed.)
